Choosing between an installed terminal and a tab on macOS
The installed application is the option that keeps state. Chart templates, saved profiles and window arrangements stay on the Mac, so a workspace reopens as it was left. That pays off on a machine used for trading regularly and matters much less on one opened for a quick look.
The browser route keeps the Mac clean. Nothing is added to the system, nothing needs updating, and on a laptop that is short of storage or shared with someone else the whole question of installation disappears. Signing out ends the session on that machine completely.
Because both routes lead to the same account, the choice is reversible at any point. A Mac set up with the desktop terminal can still be used through a browser, and a Mac that has only ever run the browser version loses nothing that lives in the account.
